Smart Start is an individual consultation service for those who are launching an advisory business. Whether you want to enter the business for the long run or view consulting as an interim step in your career, we can get you off and running.

We will work together to address six strategic issues for your practice:

  • Which of the services you can offer have the strongest demand, value, and profit potential?
  • What prospective clients should you target in the short and long term?
  • How should you position and market the business?
  • What are the key elements of selling your services?
  • What tools do you need to deliver your services?
  • What business practices and technology support do you need to launch the business?

As you bring prospective clients into the business, we help you focus on how to demonstrate and create value for those clients. Depending on your needs, we may work on writing a winning proposal, mastering the services sale cycle, pricing your services, or handling competition.

Your commitment to our mutually-defined goals for your business is the best indicator of your potential for success.

In each of our once-a-week, scheduled meetings, we review progress to date and plan new practice-building activities. We can also address day-to-day issues, such as how to manage a sales situation, what your marketing materials should include, or how to negotiate your fees with a particular client.

In-between our weekly meetings, you can call or email me with questions. To help ensure a successful engagement, I ask for a minimum three-month commitment to the program. If we agree that the program is a success, we can extend our work.
